They are usually depicted as large, purple, canine-esque creature with two yellow bull-like horns, and as a tradition usually appeared on the final dungeon of the game, however on later releases the behemoth has become a usual enemy or even the first boss fight.

Most varieties of Behemoths counter any attack with an attack of their own, and use a powerful Magic attack if a spell is used on them, such as Flare and Meteor. A common variant is the King Behemoth, also known as the Behemoth King. These enemies are usually yellow in color and are always stronger versions of the Behemoth as their name suggests.

Slowly in the shadows, there was moving something even darker and fearsome than shadows itself. It was Ryoko Kuroshiro, a man whose name was even more legendary than his deeds. His old yet powerful body was hidden so well that not even an expert of sightseeing would notice him. And then he stopped at an instant, right next to a huge tree reaching more than 70 meters. He revealed his hand and touched the surface of the tree. It was covered with an almost invisible slime. He raised his hand towards his nose.

'' This smell ... it must be him.'' Ryoko muttered in his mind the moment the smell had filled his nose and mind. Was he really going to face behemoth, the king of many. Ryoko's past was maybe more legendary, but Behemoth's past was certainly longer and there was no hope that an immortal beast could have been getting old and fragile. And yet he had moved withing an eye blink. He was standing next to a rock twice as huge as he was and something with sharp blue feathers was standing in the location he had been previously.

'' A Blue chocobo huh ...'' Ryoko muttered to himself and a smile covered his face. Those beasts were as rare as were the golden chocobo's.

'' Want this?'' He told while taking out a Gyshall Green. The messy feather's covering the skin of the chocobo started shining and the eyes reflected his happiness. It seemed as the chocobo had been starving for a while. And that's why he acted as he did.

'' Shi ..'' Ryoko shouted when the animal had rushed at him. Barely he had dodged the hit and dashed to right. The speed, it was almost as high as his own.

'' I see ... a pure blood blue chocobo. '' He muttered to himself and threw half of the gyshall green to the chocobo. It was a offer of friendship.

'' You may become handy!'' He told and hid the other half of food. The chocobo released a quiet soft voice. It was a sign of accepted friendship. And then Ryoko was gone. Moving using only flash-steps he had made his way already around 3 miles away from the place he had countered the chocobo. The previous forest was over and he was in front of a huge cave entrance.

'' So ... here you are ...'' Ryoko muttered as he heard a devastating scream from the inside. Slowly he made a step and unseated his bastard sword. A drop of sweat moved slowly down from his forehead. 3 miles of flash steps, it was damn exhausting. Especially because he was getting older and older every day.

The Behemoths Eyes opened suddenly at the smell of a fresh meal. He roared and stood High on his back legs waiting for His meal to fall into his trap. Drool began to drip down his fangs. As he gained sight of his soon to be dead opponent.

Ryoko was standing still, waiting for his opponent to appear. And there he was, the gigantic monster feared by many. His eyes, they were filled with rage and bloodlust, yet Ryoko was cold and emotionless. He was definately waiting for the enemy to make the first move, but he was getting impatient.

'' It's a male one ... damn it's big.'' He told in his mind after seeing the enemy rising to the highs. And then Ryoko had flashed to left as a warning sign to his enemy.

'' Don't be too hasty ...'' He told in his mind while thinking of the enemy and gave a glance to his enemy. And in the same time he had given an overview to his surroundings. Perfect place to hide was right behind him, a huge rock, probably strong enough to last for few blows of Behemoth.

'' That's the place where I'm going to put my camp up!'' He told ironically and stared his enemy.

'' Come one, I don't have whole day!'' He shouted with a voice that only few were able to match. Filled with power, it was as loud as was Behemoth's roar.

The behemoth Unleashed a roar and cast Flare upon the boulder that the human was hiding behind.

Ryoko was hiding behind the rock, waiting for his enemy to move. And the next moment flames filled everything in front of him and the waves of heat started melting his skin. The vision got blurry instantly and pain shoot trough his body. But Ryoko was no weakling. A flash-step and he was behind the enemy. A smooth yet powerful slash directly towards the hard skin of Behemoth's back.

'' Don't underestimate me ...'' Ryoko muttered loudly enough for his enemy to be heard.

The behemoths Ears Flicked up and he turned towards the direction of the noise. And attacked unmercifully at any thing that moved.

The hand with claws moved at high speed towards Ryoko while the blade of Ryoko's was going to cut it's target. And then, the claws and sword met. A powerful sound of clashing filled the air and Ryoko flew back more than 10 meters while the beast stayed still.

'' No wonder that you have survived this long ... Your physical power matches the one of my own.'' Ryoko muttered and smiled to Behemoth. And then he was behind the enemy, aiming for legs. A hit, another one and third slash. Behemoth was barely able to dodge his enemy, with no time left to counter.

'' There is no need to waste anymore time! You are too dumb to use your strength efficiently '' He shouted and threw something at high speed to the mouth of Behemoth. Bahamuth released a monstrous roar and Ryoko started to laugh. The laughter, it was filled with relief.

'' Why do they always give me easy enemies like this one!'' Ryoko shouted and dash to left. He gave a last glance to his dead enemy and turned around.

'' Thank you choco ..'' He told with friendly voice and started walking away. A hole as big as Behemoth's head was in the chest of the beast. Next to the entrance of the cave, a blue chocobo covered with red liquid was eating something reminding partial Gyshall Green.
